Protect your Data

Data Backups – it’s easier than you think!

When it comes to your computer system, there are few guarantees I can offer you. One thing I can guarantee is that one day your hard drive will fail and all the data stored on it will be lost – forever! Like a light bulb that burns out when you need it the most, your hard drive will cease to work and the information stored on it will be irretrievably lost!

Protect your data with an automatic backup system

I usually get a call from someone sounding very desperate because their computer will not start. When I tell them their hard drive has ‘crashed’ and the information on it is lost, I can see the tears welling up in their eyes. Don’t let this happen to you, protect your data with an automatic backup.

There are many inexpensive options for backups

Protecting your photos, your accounting file, your email – everything on your computer’s hard drive – is as simple as making a copy and storing it somewhere else. You can store it on a CD or DVD, an external hard drive that sells for $60, another computer in your home or office, or by using an online service that automatically backs up everything on the Internet for as low as $5/month.

I will make sure your hard drive is organized properly and that the backup software is configured to back up all your information.

Recovering your data can be as easy as connecting the external hard drive to a computer and copying the folders and files to your hard drive. Simple, easy to understand backups make for a painless restore process. Online backups also make it very easy to recover your files. Sometimes a hard drive is not completely ‘dead’ and can be read using a special device.

I can sometimes retrieve your data and save it to another computer

If you simply must get the information out of your dead hard drive, there are recovery services that can retrieve your data in most situations.  They are relatively expensive, about $100 per Gigabyte (that’s $1,000.00 per 10 Gigabytes, or $20,000.00 for 200 Gigabytes).

For less than the price of recovering just one Gigabyte, you can backup all the data on your computer regularly.
